In 2023, chunky highlights tend to be placed around the face in "ribbons," unlike the 90's version where the hair was left boldly striped.

Anyone who wants face-framing highlights may like chunky highlights, especially if they're going for a bold look. Chunky highlights may cost less, depending on how much product is used and how long the service takes, too. Additionally, chunky highlights are great for punky, avant-garde looks, since fantasy colors go over them easily.
