Summer 2024's Best Hair Colors Are All About Taking It Easy

May 16, 2024

Introduction

As we edge closer to summer 2024, the beauty world buzzes with anticipation for the season's hair color trends. This year, it's all about simplicity and elegance, moving away from high-maintenance hues in favor of more natural, effortless styles.

Whether you're looking to refresh your look or try something completely new, the trend forecast promises something for everyone, focusing on low-maintenance styles that are both easy to achieve and maintain.

Trend Forecast

This summer, hair color trends are taking a relaxed approach, emphasizing natural beauty and ease of care. Here are the top trends poised to dominate the season:

  1. Sun-Kissed Highlights: Think soft subtle highlights, natural-looking highlights that mimic the subtle bleaching effect of the sun. This trend is perfect for adding golden tones and dimension and warmth to your hair, creating a laid-back, beachy vibe.
  2. Soft Pastels: Pastel colors aren't going anywhere, but this summer, they're getting a muted makeover. Soft pastel tones offer a hint of color that's both whimsical and wearable, perfect for those looking to add a splash of bright color playfulness to their look without committing to a vibrant hue. For ex. ( strawberry blonde,  dusty rose, lavender blonde, etc.)
  3. Warm Brunettes: Rich, warm brunette shades are making a big comeback, offering depth and sophistication. This trend is ideal for those seeking a color that's both classic and effortlessly chic. For ex. ( brown hair, medium brown hair, any brown base )
  4. Subtle Balayage: Balayage continues to reign supreme, but with a more subtle, toned-down approach. Soft gradations and natural-looking sweeps of color make this trend a go-to for anyone wanting a low-maintenance yet add dimension. For ex. ( anyone with natural color, a base color, caramel tones)

Best Summer Hair Colors

The best summer hair colors for 2024 champion the theme of understated elegance and ease, aligning perfectly with the year's broader beauty trends. Beyond the forecasted trends, these colors stand out for their ability to enhance natural beauty with minimal effort:

  • Creamy Blonde: soft, creamy blonde hair offers a refreshingly natural take on the classic bright blonde, providing a subtle glow that's perfect for the summer light. It's great for those looking to lighten their hair without the stark contrast of platinum blonde shades.
  • Earth Tones: Inspired by nature, earthy tones like soft terracotta, sandy beige, and muted copper bring warmth and a sense of calm to any look. These tones work beautifully across all hair types, offering a sun kissed look that is both grounding and sophisticated.
  • Cool Browns: Moving away from the warmth of traditional summer brunettes, cool tones offer a modern twist on brunette hair. With hints of ash or muted taupe, these colors provide depth and an effortlessly cool vibe, perfect for those seeking a subtle but striking change.

Each of these colors not only captures the essence of summer 2024’s laid-back, easygoing approach to beauty but also offers a versatile range that can be tailored to fit any style or preference, making it easier than ever to find your perfect summer hue.

Expert Tips

Choosing the right hair color for the summer isn't just about following trends—it's about finding a shade that complements your skin tone and suits your style preferences. Here are some insights from professional hairstylists:

  • Skin Tone Matching: For cool skin tones, opt for colors with ashy undertones. Warm skin tones pair well with golden or caramel hues.
  • Preserving Hair Health: To maintain hair health and color vibrancy during the summer, use color-protecting shampoos and conditioners, and don't skimp on the sunscreen for your hair.

Conclusion

Summer 2024's hair color trends are all about finding beauty in ease and simplicity. Whether you're drawn to sun-kissed highlights, intrigued by soft pastels, or ready to deepen your hue with warm brunettes, there's a trend to match every preference and style.

Remember, the best way to enjoy your new hair color is by taking care of it, so don't forget to invest in products that will help maintain its vibrancy and health.

Brazilian Blowout, keratin treatment, or Smooth Filler? Here’s how Houston’s three smoothing treatments actually compare.

Traveling this summer? Learn which R+Co and Oribe products belong in your carry-on, and why salon-size isn’t always the right size. Houston summers mean one thing for a lot of our clients: getting out of Houston. Beach trips, weddings, long weekends somewhere with better airflow. And almost every trip, the same packing dilemma shows up. Your favorite products don’t fit in a carry-on, and TSA is not going to negotiate with you about it. That’s the whole reason travel-size haircare exists. Not as a downgrade. As the same professional-grade formula, just sized for a bag instead of a bathroom counter. At M Salon, we carry travel sizes from two of our product lines: R+Co and Oribe. Both are professional brands our stylists use and recommend daily, so a travel bottle isn’t a lesser version of what you get in the chair. It’s the exact same formula. Why It Matters More Than You’d Think If you’ve invested in a balayage, a gloss, or a smoothing treatment, the products you use afterward directly affect how long that result lasts. Drugstore travel packs are often reformulated, watered down, or simply not the same product as the full size. That gap shows up fast, especially with color-treated or chemically processed hair exposed to a different climate, different water, and a lot more sun than it gets at home. R+Co’s On a Cloud Bond Building + Repair Styling Oil is a good example. It’s silicone-free, protects against heat up to 450°F, and tames frizz and flyaways, which matters a great deal if you’re headed somewhere humid (and if you’re leaving Houston in July, you’re probably not escaping humidity, just relocating it). R+Co’s Sun Catcher mist adds UV protection along with Vitamin C and hyaluronic acid, aimed at hair that’s about to see more sun than usual. Oribe’s travel sizes cover the brand’s signature repair and styling lineup, the kind of products that keep hair looking finished even after a day of travel, saltwater, or hotel blow-dryers that are never quite as good as the one at home. A Few Packing Guidelines Pack a leave-in treatment before a styling product. Damaged or color-treated hair generally benefits from repair first, style second. Don’t skip heat protection just because you’re “not really styling” on vacation. Beach waves from a curling iron still count as heat. If you’re flying, travel sizes solve the liquid restriction problem outright. No decanting into unlabeled bottles, no guessing whether 3.4 ounces is really 3.4 ounces. One more thing worth saying plainly: travel size doesn’t mean travel-only. A lot of clients keep a travel bottle in their gym bag or desk drawer for touch-ups between salon visits. It’s a genuinely useful size to have on hand, trip or no trip. Protecting the Work You’ve Already Paid For Here’s the part clients don’t always think about until it’s too late. If you’ve had a balayage, a gloss, or a smoothing treatment like Smooth Filler or a Brazilian Blowout, the wrong travel products can undo some of that investment faster than you’d expect. Sulfates strip color. Certain drugstore smoothing sprays can shorten how long a frizz treatment lasts. Chlorine and saltwater are rough on everyone’s hair, but they’re rougher on hair that’s already been through a chemical service. Sticking with the same professional line you use at home, just in travel size, keeps that risk low. It’s a small thing, but it adds up over a few trips a year. Where to Find Them M Salon’s current travel-size feature is live now on our products page , rotating in as our latest product recommendation. Stop by the salon or reach out to the front desk if you’d like a stylist’s opinion on which travel products fit your specific hair type and current treatment history. That’s really the fastest way to get it right. Hair varies a lot from person to person, and a quick conversation with someone trained to look at yours beats guessing from a shelf. And if you’re not traveling this month? Keep a set in your bag anyway. Houston humidity doesn’t wait for a vacation, and neither should good hair days. Ready for the hair you’ve been dreaming about, wherever you’re headed this summer? Secure your spot before your next trip and ask your stylist what belongs in your bag.
